The theme of a work is not its subject or topic, but rather what that subject means - what idea or insight it reveals about hum(s) aretence - what is the author's message to the planet? Themes are revealed gradually as we learn about the characters and their predicament. Keep a LIVING post (one which you keep adding to every time you log on to your blog) about what you think the play's theme(s) is/are.

Forshadowing: foreshadowing is the use of clues or hints to suggest events that will occure later in the plot. Why does Mr. Frank break down when he sees the glove?
Mr. Frank breaks down in the beginning of the play/movie and begins the whole story as a flashback. As the story goes, this part is not really a foreshadowing, but in a sense it is a foreshadowing because it tells us that this story will have a sad ending. The glove Mr. Frank sees is Anne's and seeing it and cracking up tells us that Anne faced a sad ending, prosumable lost or dead. However, according to Wikipedia - Online Free Encyclopedia entire Van Dann family, Mr. Dussel, and Mrs. Frank, Margot, and Anne faces death in the concentration camp.

Act 1: "But always remember this, Anneke. There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind." Explain what you think this statement means. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?
I agree with this statement up to certain degree. It is very true that under any opression we can still have our hope and thought for it is our own private place, where nobody can reach. Nobody is capalbe of putting limits on your mind, but at the same time it is physicially possible to do so. For instance, for over 50 years medical science has been able to remove memories, or to chemically brain wash people. The control of media and surrounding is what sets up our world and limit so manupilating such can se4t our own mental limits to our imaginations and thoughts. For instance if we were raised in some moon station, we might feel normal to be able to jump 50 feet to the air, while we know in our head it is impossible. But at the same time even if you were born in the moon you have the freedom to think how it might be like to live on Earth with 6 times the gravity.

Act I, Scenes 1-3: What do you think would be the hardest part of life in the Secret Annex: the fear of discovery, the need to keep silent for hours at a time, the sharing of cramped quarters with strangers, or some other aspect? Explain.
I think the hardest part of being in the secret Annex was the separation from the rest of the world. I couldn't imagine a life without friends isolated from the rest of the world being with only elderly boy and sister. Being silent is something I can deal with. Stay up and live at night and sleep from morning till the workers go home, which could solve the problem of being quiet as well as much of the fear of discovery because the Green Police would most likely not come at night. Being cramped is something very hard to deal with but it is something that you can get used to, and privacy is the least of your problems. But having to live without friends would have been a torture, and also for teenagers being stuck with their parents might also prove to be torture as well. We can see that it was hard for Anne in the way that she wrote imaginary letters as well as starting the diary, not only to kill time, but to have someone to share the deepest descrets and talk to people.

Act I, Scenes 4, 5: How do the events following Anne's nightmare reveal tension between Anne and two other members of the household?
I believe that the events following Anne's nightmare tells us that Anne has tension rising with Mr. Dussel and her mom. Mr. Dussel complains how one day Anne will doom them all, and speaks of her bickering and things while Anne was terrified, and Mrs. Frank comes to comfort Anne, but Anne only looks for Mr. Frank. Mrs. Frank's german (?) tells us that she is very uncomfortable at the fact Anne prefers her father much more than her mother.

Why are there so many books, movies, documentaries, etc. about the Holocaust? Why do we keep retelling this story?
We make books, movies, documentaries and others about the Holocaust to remember, to know what human is capalbe of. We make these things to remember what Jews went through to know what they have been through to resepect them and what they have gone through. We make these things as memorial to remember them so that the history may not repeat itself, and to not have prejudice in our daily lives. To see what prejudice can lead to, and so that we don't do the same thing.

Question: What do you think this play reveals about our need for freedom? About the power of love? About courage and hope? About good and evil? In your answers, consider how the play's themes relate to the themes of another work, such as The Taming of the Shrew.
Answer: This play about Anne Frank tells us our thrieve and need for freedom. We can live without freedom, but it would not be a true "life." I mean would the life that the Franks, Van Danns and the Mr.Dussel's life be true "life"? The life chained by the fear bounded within the secret annex, and the life of bodom and repeating days without freedom. There is the part where Mrs. Frank is worried about Anne's health, and Mr. Frank says somethig about how what Anne has nothing that won't be solved by playing with her friends and fresh air outside. The power of love was what held the Franks and Van Danns kept in the annex. I would not have invited other families especially if my own family lacked in food and space, but Mr. Frank had love to care for others and that was what kept all of them together. The courage and hope was what kept those who lived in secrecy to keep living. The courage to face the fear of being caught to counter the fear they faced every day, and to have hope that the Nazi and the Germans will be one day defeated. The good of man is what kept those who hid to be taken care of, while it was the evilness of of man that caused all fear, dread, death, and evilness. I have never read any novels considering the Holocaust, but through the Anne Frank, I have gained interest in Holocaust and I hope to find and read some more books about it, to honor those who bravely encountered these unjustice, and to remember what mankind is capable of.

The Lost Names 일어버린 이름 #3
Theme:
The theme of the book The Lost Names is very closely connected with the previous two topics: Character/Plot Developement and Setting. This is because the theme itself creats settings, that leads to plot developement on its own. And the plot developement automatically causes character to develope to adjust to that plot and setting. The theme of this book is Japanese Intervention involving the conflict that arises between the Korean liberation forces and Japanese emperial forces.
Japanese Intervention is the period in the early 1900s, sepecifically 1910 to 1945 when Korean civil rights, nationality, and culture was opressed by Japanese government. Many Koreans were put under forced labor, or harsh working conditions. This put on end to Joseon dynasty, and when Korean government was formed by Kim Gu, it had to go through the shame of having our own government in China, constantly moving around in multiple cities. The liberation forces involved acts of passive resistances, assasination, and even military conflicts to drive out Japanese or to remove key actors of those who acted for the opression of Korean Rights. Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was formed around Kim Gu, first president of Republic of Korea after WWII.
After World War II which ended with U.S. and Western powers' favor, bringing U.S. and U.S.S.R. as the world's two unchallenged major power. After World War II, Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea who was under constant support from U.S. was put incharge of Korea under 38th parrell by U.S. and North under control of the comunist forces of U.S.S.R. Later, China became under communist government after a long civil war, and Democratic forces were pushed down to Republic of China or more commonly known as Taiwan.
The thingy kind'a got long, but in short terms the Theme is the period when Korea was under Japanese rule, the period itself.

Lost Names (일어버린 이름) #2
Character Development:
In the very biginning the main speaker is not identified and only takes place as a child retelling what he heard from his mother about incidents crossing the border from North Korea to China. However, as the stroy developes further and further the character is deeper and deeper involved with the developing plot which is the growing conflict and confrontation with Koreans and Japanese. Futher on the story the main character is even tied in into personal level of the conflict and character plays major role in the conflict. As the character developes, further he gets involved with the plot, which is also developing side by side.

READ MY "SECRETS" IT IS SHORT!↓(Right under this blog)
Setting:
This blog will be dedicated to the settings revealed in the book Lost Names, my literacy circle book. This story is based during the Japanese intervention period when Japanese forces were advancing through East Asia and the Pacific. During this time ALL recordings, evidences, and witnesses leads to the fact of opression of civil rights of those who were colonized, and was subjection to brutal force. Their culture was not assimilated, but obliviated and was tryed to be replaced with Japanese cultures. For instance, 80% of the damages to our historical artifacts has been done by Japanese, and they even planted Sakura or 벗꽃 by hundreds, Japan's national flower proving their effort trying to opress any cultural disunity.
Regardless of what others may claim, it is a historically proven and evident fact that Japan has ruled with cruelty during this period. This book draws a picture of what a Korean boy with near duel identity might have experienced during this period. Koreans were forbidden to speak our own language, and our own government formed later had to be moved outside our own land into China. It is not what they have done, that counts for it is now present, but what they act about it. It is unbelievable for they have not accepted the fact of their brutal rule, and claiming certain portion of our land such as 독도 to be their land. An outragous claim if you ask me because 독도 is just 90kms away from one of the Korea's largest islands, while Japan is far far away. It is written on their own historic mapping of 조선 or Josun that Docdo is clearly marked as part of Korea. Their own records proves that for any evidental mapping and recording that has been done before last 20 years proves that 독도 is our land. Now talk of outragous.
Anyways, back to the subject of the book, the setting of the book The Lost Names shows the difficulty a third culture child, Korea, goes through in Korea during the Japanese intervention. Even though it is a historical fiction, we must clearly note the fact that this is based on historical evidence and facts as we read these books.

Secret
Hey guys! The looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong writer is back! You know what've noticed? It seems that the length is scaring you guys away, so here's what I'll do. I'll write short! Hooray!
Hem..... my secret. I think the best one to start is the one that no one in my school knows, while many people may know about it. Does that make sense?
My dad's sick. I know, ㅜㅡ it is rather sad, but here it goes. My dad was diagonosed of some 'masses' in his thyroid last year, which after a cell biopsy was diagonosed as cancer. (Fitting for the current song in posting - "Cancer, by My Chemical Romance.:). A 1cm mass was discovered and turned out that it wasn't too much of a big deal except for the fact it was cancer, and he went through barrol of tests just past couple months, and checked out for the surgery, and finally he rolled into the hospital for the big day in my KAIAC music festival day. It turned out okay, but MY DAD who is usually jolly and over-optimistic was so sore that he was stuck with iPod Video to kill time with Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Startrek The New Generation, and House (of course all seasons). It took me one full day to organise the file transfer and names and stuff, but anyways it helped him kill time. He's pretty much well now except that he looks like a frankinstein or nearly headless Nick, because he's got a big cut accross his neck as if someone chain sawed him. Check it out next time. Its pretty cool.
Well, until next posting! (Which is in like another 30 minutes)

Courage? or a Fool
Do you think that in order to be brave, you must be fearless? Is charging in the hail of gunfire bravery? I say no. Bravery only comes with fear, for to show bravery we must over come the fear. Those who are fearless are fools, those who can not reason or take care of themselves. Do you think I, Leon, is a fool? or someone who can step up for what you believe in, and at the least try to overcome the fear.
I want to share a little story from my past, that I am rather a shamed of, but it's a no biggy. This story goes back just couple months to last December in the talent show. I actually presented with Michael (the 1991 guy), Alvin Y, Daniel P, Justin Kim, and myself. I know not many of you would have noticed, but I personality actually changed around sixth grade. I didn't notice, not until one of my friends mentioned it. I looked back and it was true. I came to TCIS in 4th grade, and I had Mrs.Wood and then Mrs.Carbloom (did I spell her name right?;;;) as my teacher, and even till then I never cared about what other people said about me, and I never had trouble of getting along people. I would walk up to a stage and blow horrible notes from my trumpet and walk down without a second thought, or getting embarraced. I actually used to be pretty popular among my friends before I came to this school, and made up to the last round on class representative vote in korean school in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade (which is kinda sad..).
Starting of six grade, out class must've what, doubled? Probably closer to trippled. And I tryed to get along with everybody, but in the end, as it turned out I was teased. Its just that kind of part of life, and it wasn't just me and (This section has been post-edited by the original author due to its contents. Contact leopartguard@hotmail.com) Sarcastic remarks on almost every statement I said, or just simiple thing as responses in small chats. During that time I had to adjust and learn of ways to deal with it, and beginning of 7th grade, I tryed to physically shut people up whenever those kind of statements were made, and to those who I couldn't force them to, I took it with their parents. The teasing and things came to an end. But so did my old self. The thing must have gotten stuck with me, and now whenever I hear such remarks I act rather violently or physically. This was the moment I began to care what people said and how I performed when it came for other people to assess me.
So since than, I became very sensitive in those matters, and whenever I performed something in public or something that would affect people's thoughts, I would become very, very, nervous. Even simple things as playing my trumpet in Band class in spot checks. When I am told to play certain parts, I screw up even on the simplest of melodies. In another word, I was scared to take chances when it came to that kind of matter. Then here came Daniel who asked me if we should do a talentshow, and it ended up with me saying yes. I had to overcome that fear of people's conception and before I knew it, it was over. I did mess up - bad. But from then the amount I cared for those kind of events was lessened. It still gives me butterflies in my stomach whenever it comes to such events, but I can deal with it. I had fear, and I over came it.
Well, thesedays I think I'm getting along fine, and you know I think that time in 6th grade was just that time in life, and I'm over it. The thing with 'violence' is still there, but these days i've been working on getting rid of it. I am happy to say that I am happy, and life goes on. I think this blogging went just longer than I intended, but if you intend to leave any comments, please mind reading the whole thing^^.
By the way next time I'm going to write about my deepest secret ever, so please intend on stopping by again. and It does help to have some music going while you read this. Try today's music!
