READ MY "SECRETS" IT IS SHORT!↓(Right under this blog)
Setting:
This blog will be dedicated to the settings revealed in the book Lost Names, my literacy circle book. This story is based during the Japanese intervention period when Japanese forces were advancing through East Asia and the Pacific. During this time ALL recordings, evidences, and witnesses leads to the fact of opression of civil rights of those who were colonized, and was subjection to brutal force. Their culture was not assimilated, but obliviated and was tryed to be replaced with Japanese cultures. For instance, 80% of the damages to our historical artifacts has been done by Japanese, and they even planted Sakura or 벗꽃 by hundreds, Japan's national flower proving their effort trying to opress any cultural disunity.
Regardless of what others may claim, it is a historically proven and evident fact that Japan has ruled with cruelty during this period. This book draws a picture of what a Korean boy with near duel identity might have experienced during this period. Koreans were forbidden to speak our own language, and our own government formed later had to be moved outside our own land into China. It is not what they have done, that counts for it is now present, but what they act about it. It is unbelievable for they have not accepted the fact of their brutal rule, and claiming certain portion of our land such as 독도 to be their land. An outragous claim if you ask me because 독도 is just 90kms away from one of the Korea's largest islands, while Japan is far far away. It is written on their own historic mapping of 조선 or Josun that Docdo is clearly marked as part of Korea. Their own records proves that for any evidental mapping and recording that has been done before last 20 years proves that 독도 is our land. Now talk of outragous.
Anyways, back to the subject of the book, the setting of the book The Lost Names shows the difficulty a third culture child, Korea, goes through in Korea during the Japanese intervention. Even though it is a historical fiction, we must clearly note the fact that this is based on historical evidence and facts as we read these books.
